Unfortunately, once again, records of Guild serial numbers before 1960 are at best sketchy, preventing us from being able to assure dating accuracy before that year.
Nonetheless, the charts below contain the best information we have on the approximate last serial numbers produced each year before 1960.

Two other highly reliable resources for dating Guild instruments are The Guild Guitar Book and Gruhn’s Guide to Vintage Guitars, both of which are excellent references that often prove helpful with questions regarding dating, specifications and historical context of many Guild instruments.
The first digit is the year and the other numbers are production numbers.
This system is fairly reliable for guitars made from 1953 to 1961.
The transfer contained an eight digit serial number as well as "MADE IN USA". There also were some bolt on models with a date ink stamped on the heel.
Gibson introduced the current system of serialization in 1977 and continues with it today.
An ink stamp on the back of the headstock which included either 5 or 6 digits. According to the Guild dating chart at ended their initial run around 1970-71, and most of them had a second run from 1979 thru 1987. Thanks, I have a Guild Mark I (all solid mahogany) which I bought as a kid not knowing how good a guitar it was. Sadly, Guild hasn't built the Mark series classicals for a long time.A new system was put in place in 1961 which was set up to include all the Gibson instrument lines.
